RUN TO WIN is a partnership of local Christian churches and ministries committed to service and outreach at the LA Marathon and more.

I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God
has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.  Phil 3:14

Our Ministry

Pray for the Lord’s guidance and try to be not influenced by your own desires.

Ø      Ask to be used to spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ

Ø      Ask to be used in your community

Ø      Know that a race is a great place for your people to meet other people

Seek others to pray with and/or without you.

Ø      Seek God in this

Ø      It can all fall apart easily, and you do not want to be tortured by “I should have…” thoughts

Ø      Outreach is battling in this spiritual warfare of ours

Ø      God’s enemy will not like your outreach, so you need this help

Find a race in the community you desire to reach.

Ø      Get a copy of Competitor, raceplace, Runner’s World, Running Times, or any such publication

Ø      Stores like Sports Chalet and bike shops have magazines and flyers

Ø      Go to a big race, they have a large amount of literature

Ø      Try www.competitor.com, www.raceplace.com, etc.

Phone or e-mail the contact person.

Ø      Ask who coordinates details regarding booth space

Ø      Ask to set up a booth at their event

Ø      Ask to be exempt from paying a fee, since you are a non-profit

Ø      Ensure that you are selling nothing

Ø      Explain that your group would like to distribute candy and literature

Ø      At this point, there may be some opposition

Ø      Point out that

  1. In any large group there are always some Christians who like to see other Christians.

  2. There is a heightened awareness of God since last year

  3. You will not preach

Ø      Consider partnering with another church to make it a “community effort” if you are having difficulty getting in

The Missions Team

In 1987, God drew me to Himself, and I trusted Jesus Christ for salvation.  Immediately, I began telling people what I knew about Him.  There was no knowledge of evangelism.  I was only compelled to say what little I knew, so I did.  My first convert was my mother, when I was a four-day-old Christian.  Salvation was so exciting to me that I had to tell people.  This is my 17th year, and I am still excited about telling people.

RTW was founded in 1995.  In ’98, I was led to the ministry and instantly got involved.

The Mission: spread the Good News of salvation in Jesus Christ so that lost people will be saved.  Create opportunities for Christians to serve in various ways in their community.

The Method: distribute God’s Word, do the work of evangelists, and supply Christian servants to help the staff at running and other sporting events:  outreach.

The Message: Jesus Christ saves sinners.

There are people with no hope and no answers.  As a Christian, it is my duty to find lost souls and win them to Christ.

Fred McCullen

Serving in the local congregation was my way of life; Children’s Ministry, Men’s Ministry, Music Ministry, home study groups, Orphanage Ministry, Hospitality, Outreach, and more.  Kelly and I were married in ’92.  She often serves with me.  I have two main hobbies.  In 1965, I became a distance runner.  In 1970, I realized that I liked music enough that I purchased a used guitar from a pawnshop and taught myself how to thump chords.

2001 was my 4th year volunteering with RTW, mainly coordinating live Christian music along the course of the Los Angeles Marathon.  Then, I was hired part-time to coordinate  the entire outreach which included a Chapel Service and other activities.  Then, in 2002, God gave me a vision:

Start a Chaplain Service for the running community of So-Cal.  Football, baseball, basketball, auto racing, and others have a Chaplain Service.  Running is more popular now than 10 or 20 years ago.

Runners have an eye on health, they thinkthat they will live longer, and I have a message about eternal life in Christ Jesus!

At that time, I said, “If it does not work, it was my idea.  If it works, it is God’s idea.”  I was sure that it would work because I knew that it was not my idea.  Moreover, it is working.  People get saved, there is prayer and fellowship, the Word goes out, Christians are serving, and God is getting glorified!
